Love lasts through time.

Love lasts through time.

Once a year my aunt goes out to Ontario to visit my grandparents; who have been together almost 64 years! That's an amazing feat. Their story isn't special, isn't different from anyone else's but, they managed to stay together for almost 64 years. Unlike couples today who give up, break up and cheat, they didn't! They stuck it out through the tough times, the bad times, struggles, bad health, 3 kids and income hardships. They would talk things out, work together and made their love last.
They got together in the 1950s. My grandma was an operator and papa worked at the steel plant.
While my aunt was visiting this summer, she brought back a necklace for me from my grandparents. It's a beautiful 24k gold locket. Now, you may think there isn't anything special to that besides that it's from my grandma but, I think the story behind it is what makes it priceless.

That is the necklace. Beautiful, isn't it? I think so. Here is the story behind it.

My grandparents were young in the '50s. I guess my papa was just smitten with my grandma from the moment he saw her so, he did what ANY good man would do, asked her out on a date. (Men today have forgotten what dating is and how to win a woman's heart by courting her). He was so excited to take out my grandma on this date and so sure that they'd be together forever that he spent his pay on the necklace for her.
He took her out to dinner and a movie and was so nervous at the end of the date. Mostly because he'd kept the necklace in a little box in his pocket the entire night. As he walked her to her door, they were saying their goodnight's, that's when he gave her the locket. From that moment on almost 64 years ago, they have been together.
The locket may not be worth millions, may not be stunning in some people's eyes but to me, with this story behind it, it's priceless.
I will pass it on to my daughter later in life and she can pass it on to her's, with this memory behind it.
Sometimes, what makes things worth holding on to is the memories and stories behind them. And always, if you're in a relationship with someone remember, relationships aren't something you can throw away at a whim. People have feelings, emotions, memories. You can't just throw someone away like they're trash just because you get bored or things get "too hard". If you're in love, really in love, you'll find a way to make it work... as a team; because being a couple is being a team!
