Happy Non-Valentine's day
Another Valentine's day is about to roll around and here I am looking at all the crap the stores have put out, yet again to suck you into spending money you don't need to spend! The crappy decorations that they regurgitate every single year, the same old cards, same old chocolates, same old flowers. There's never anything new or exciting.
I don't want chocolates, I am a diabetic, I can't eat them. I don't want cheesy cards or decorations or a stuffed toy, I'm an adult. I wouldn't mind flowers, I like flowers but, I don't want them because some stupid holiday says you have to buy them for your loved one on this certain day just to show them how much you love them. I don't want to go to some fancy dinner at a crowded restaurant on February 14th just because Hallmark has said that day is the love day.
I think Valentine's day is a joke. A day for suckers. Just because Hallmark and stores say today is the day to celebrate your love for someone doesn't mean you have to. Why not celebrate and show your love every day?! Why wait for some stupid commercial day? You love your partner the day before Valentine's, right? You love your partner the day after, too, right?
Sure, it's nice to know that someone cares about you, is thinking of you and did something nice for you but, did they do it on this one specific day because they felt obligated? Mostly. Couples should celebrate their love every day, show one another they care about every day. It's a Monday, your partner had a hard day at work, why not bring them home some takeout with a cute card? It's Wednesday, their week has been going bad, why not take them out for a coffee and surprise them with flowers? You don't have to wait for Hallmark to tell you when to share your affection for your spouse.
Valentine's day can be depressing for some people. They put far too much into this stupid day. They think because they don't have a date they aren't adequate, they aren't special and no one cares about them. They get sad, lonely and cry at home alone. Don't do that! You're amazing for who you are. If you don't have a date, who cares!? Date yourself! Order in some takeout, watch a movie, get a makeover, go on a girl's night date, have fun without a date! It's really not a big deal. Don't put so much thought into this Hallmark, cards, chocolates, stuffed toys and money-grabbing day!
Don't do a blind date or setup on Valentine's day! Never, ever agree to this on Valentine's no matter how much your friends or family pushes you to do it. It's a really bad idea. There's too much pressure to be romantic, perfect and get the perfect gifts for someone on this day. Tell them if they really want to set you up, do it on any other day other than Valentine's day. Most Valentine's day setup and blind dates never last. You'll be waiting for a call back forever. Don't even bother. Tell stupid Cupid to piss off!!
You know how I am spending my Valentine's? I will order in some Chinese takeout, watch either my favourite shows or a movie, blog, spend time with my kids and chill. It's not a big deal, it's just another day. The day after is just a regular day, too. Celebrate yourself.
