Cortisone shots
Today was the day to get my cortisone shots in my back. I had to go to Lethbridge which is an hour away from my home. On my way to the appointment, I couldn't help but think about what was to come. I'd never had a cortisone shot before so, I couldn't help but wonder what was in store for me.
The drive to Lethbridge is a boring one, not a lot to look at so have a good driving partner you can talk to.
We got a little bit lost once we were in Lethbridge but I had my Google maps so we found it quite easily. I realized I'd been to the building before with my daughter for her ultrasound for her daughter.
The check-in was really easy and because I had an appointment, I was in and out quickly. They signed me in, got me up on the table, explained what was about to happen and cleaned my back off. They gave me a numbing agent to numb my back then injected the cortisone in two spots. I was warned that once the numbing agents wore off my back would be sore and it could take 2-7 days for the cortisone to work. Fun.
I'm not allowed to bath today, I want to so badly, to make my back feel better but I have to wait until tomorrow. Good thing I had a shower this morning before I left.
When it was done and over with I headed home. No, I didn't drive myself, I had a ride. Once home, I had a 3-hour nap! It made me really tired. It probably didn't help that I was awake at 5:30 am. I thought I heard the garage door to our house slam so I woke up and was unable to go back to sleep.
Now, my back is feeling a bit sore and a bit uncomfortable. I'm not supposed to do too much for the next few days, as to not aggravate my back. I'm okay with that, sort of. I don't like to sit around being bored but I don't want the pain to come back as bad as it was.
I still find it really pathetic that this was not done through my family doctor. He didn't set up any appointments for cortisone shots or any pain relief. He's a douche of a doctor. I had to seek help from a completely different hospital in a completely different town! I had to go to Fort MacLeod, a town a half an hour away and speak to a doctor I'd never seen. Pretty bad. I've FIRED my family doctor, I'll have a meet and greet with a new family doctor in Fort MacLeod next week.
I'm more than happy to drive half an hour to doctor appointments rather than 3 minutes to my douche family doctor if it means I am taken seriously, respected and actually have my medical needs taken care of. I don't do well-tolerating ignorance and neglect. It really pisses me off. When it comes to my health, I don't want to mess around. My health is important and has to be taken care of. I have kids that count on me to be able to care for them well and if I am unhealthy, I can't care for them.
It's pretty pathetic when you can not count on a medical professional to help look after your health. That's exactly what they're profession is supposed to be!
I guess I will see within the next two weeks if these cortisone shots worked. If not, they have to do more in a different spot. I have to go for an MRI on my back to see exactly what is going on inside my spine and where exactly they should inject my back.
It would have been so nice if my stupid family doctor would have done his job and did tests or ordered tests to see what exactly is wrong with my body and what he could do to help instead of messing around, not doing his job and leaving me in pain. It would be even nicer if he wasn't a judgemental asshole and did his job instead of letting his emotions get in the way of my physical health.
I'm feeling a bit tired again, I'm not sure if it's from the pain the injections or medication but now I feel sleepy and a bit off again. I'll probably lay back down to watch some TV and fall back asleep.
