Lock down

I can title this "Lockdown" and you all know I am talking about the COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown. If I had said this before the pandemic, you all would have questioned what I was locking down lol. It's funny that Friday the 13th was the last normal day we've had in a while. Strange isn't it?

When I first heard about COVID 19 it was really frightening and made me worry a lot. I wore masks when I went out, gloves, used hand sanitizer like it was going out of style and wouldn't let my kids go out anywhere. Now, I wonder if it's even really a thing because I don't know a single soul that this has affected or touched. No one in our town has been affected by it and everyone is doing things as they normally would. Sure, stores and restaurants are closed, doing curbside pickups and such. Mail is extra slow and you see people of all kinds wearing all different kinds of masks and gloves all over the place. Still, No one in our town or close to us has had COVID 19. Stores are starting to re-open and do more curbside pickups, more restaurants are planning to re-open to eat-in. Was this all just bullshit to make us stay home for whatever reason we're not being told?

Gas prices have never been lower, kids are all being homeschooled, and there are fewer and fewer vehicles out and about, thus, our planet has been a lot healthier. Was that the plan? No, I don't believe in conspiracies, I am being very sarcastic if you couldn't tell. I know COVID 19 is a real thing, people have been very ill and it's killed a lot of people. But, I'm being serious when I tell you, our town has not been touched by COVID one bit! When I went to the city a few times, it was like there was nothing changed there as well. A lot of stores are open, restaurants are open for drive-thru and there's a TON of cars on the roads. I was even able to go out and get a new sofa, loveseat, reclining chair, coffee and end tables from The Brick and have it delivered. (I got the set for $2300 with delivery! What a deal!)

I've been to the city to get groceries and just to get away from my town and home because I was sick of being trapped inside and needed to get out and do something different. I can't stand being at home all the time. There's only so much I can do at home. I've cleaned the whole house, cleaned the garage, the yards, set up and got a trampoline for the kids, bought a 10-foot pool (that won't be set up until it's hot out), I did a garden at the front and side of the house. I cleaned the basement, threw away and gave away a ton of things we don't want or need. I ordered a new Queen size bed and mattress for myself as I am having back surgery soon and will need a much more comfortable bed. I have a California King bed now. It's amazing, really nice but the mattress is hard as a rock and I DESPISE making my bed every day because it's just so big and it hurts my back to make it. I'll be giving my bed to one of my son's.

I bought my oldest son a bed, new bedding for it and decor for his bedroom. It was much needed. He's 14 and 6 feet! He wasn't able to sleep on the tiny bed he had before and I wanted him to feel nice in his room seeing as now that we're in lockdown, he'd be spending more time in there than usual. He has an Xbox One S, so he's in there a lot for his gaming.

I must have re-decorated my house 4 times now out of pure boredom. I think I am driving my kids crazy re-decorating over and over again! There's nothing left for me to re-decorate anyways now, so I won't be bothering them with that anymore.

I'm curious what other people have been doing in this lockdown? Are they as bored as I am? Have they been doing the same things I have? The only thing I have left to do is tackle my storage room and purge that. I don't know where I can donate anything I purge though. Maybe to the Diabetes association? I don't think our thrift stores are taking donations right now, I'm not sure though. I think, maybe one is.

I don't think my yard has ever looked nicer or my house has ever been cleaner because of being so damn bored and not being able to get out as much as I used to! I know I should buy stocks in Tim Horton's for the number of times I've been going there now. It's unreal how many times I go just to get out of the house. I'd be online shopping more if places didn't take forever and a half to get deliveries to us; that and I'm not rich enough to online shop as much as I'd like to!

I will be teaching my dog, Honey to go for car rides and walk on a leash. That way she can come with us when we go out and go for walks with me when I'm really bored. She has a huge yard to play in all day if she wants, she doesn't need walks because of that but, I think it would be nice for her to get out of the yard and come with me for walks every now and again. My other dog, Ozzy can't go for walks because of his high anxiety. He was badly abused by his two previous owners so now he's terrified of everything! He's scared of loud sounds, dumpsters, garbage bags at the side of the road, vehicles, other dogs, people... the list goes on and on. I've tried walking him many times, it's just not a good idea. When he gets scared, he likes to get out of his collar and run! He runs fast and far! It's not like anyone can find his owner when he gets off because he gets right out of his collar that has the tag with his address. So, I have to run after him and it can take hours to get him to come back once he gets out of his collar. I love him to pieces but that's highly stressful when he does that so, walks are a huge NO for him!

I've heard that the Alberta government is starting phase one of re-opening businesses and restaurants. I'm a bit worried about this because there are still a lot of COVID cases out there and a lot of new ones every day. I don't know what they're thinking. I know that they can't keep everything closed forever but I think it's still a bit too soon for this. I am one of those people who if I get COVID I will get seriously ill or even die from it. I have a compromised immune system, high blood pressure, diabetes, breathing issues and a heart condition. I don't know if I would survive COVID if I caught it. So for me, it's very frightening. I am careful when I do go out, as I said previously. I wear masks, gloves and use sanitizer. I am as careful as anyone can be I suppose.

Going to Walmart however, that place makes me worry about my health even when COVID isn't a thing! I've seen people pick their nose and touch fresh fruit right after. I've seen people wiping their mouths, eyes, nose and touching fresh items. It's DISGUSTING! If I have to buy fresh items, I make sure I soak them at home in the sink for at least 10 minutes and wash them really well. If I get mail from anywhere outside Canada, even in Canada, I am wiping down the packages and items and my hands before I use the items. If its cloth, I wash it before use. I can't be too safe. I don't know if maybe I am overreacting and being overly cautious but, it's my health and my health is important. I suggest everyone does the same but, to each their own.

I hope everyone is safe, healthy and doing well during this strange time.

Take care :)
